Hanson Aggregates owns a concrete and asphalt plant near Coolidge, Arizona. Originally, truck drivers had to access the plant via a 1.5-mile dirt road through county land. During the monsoon season, this road would become muddy and impassable. To improve this roadway, Entellus designed a paved access road from Hanson’s property to the nearest County road.

After the initial design was complete for the Hanson Batch Plant access road, Entellus was hired on as the Construction Manager to construct it. In order to construct this project, our team assisted Hanson in contracting with earthmoving contractors to export over 31,000 tons of unstable soil and replace it with gravel to create a stable base. After establishing the base for the roadway, we also coordinated with paving contractors to bring in the 7,300 tons of asphalt needed to pave the road. With the scale of materials being placed on the job, unit costs of these materials was a concern for the client. Entellus helped organize an agreement between Hanson and the contractors which allowed Hanson to supply the materials for the project. This arrangement saved Hanson over $70,000 by reducing the cost to haul material from offsite and eliminate markup placed on items by the middleman. In addition to the roadway, this project featured about 1,000-feet of irrigation pipeline within the San Carlos Irrigation District right-of-way.
